As a small business, it is crucial for us to do everything we can to gain the trust and support of customers. Gaining a loyal following can be a big challenge for new business owners; and often some clever marketing is needed to really make a splash. 

Today we want to talk about one tactic in particular that works with green and sustainable businesses – sharing a positive message. One sure way to gain success this year is to have a positive message to share with your audience, and we aim to share the benefits and the reasons why you should. 

You’ll target new people 

The first reason you should consider sharing a green message with your followers is that you’ll attract new people to your business. Sharing a message which is important to the environment will draw a lot of people to you who also share those feelings. By making it known that your business supports something good, people will start to take notice of your brand and want to get involved with you and your business. 

You can make a difference  

One of the main things you can do as a business owner is to influence others. As a business owner, you are in a unique position and have the power to instrument real change in the world around you. By leading people toward something good, you can influence them to make better decisions in the best interest of the planet and this is something to be incredibly proud of. 

You’ll be supported 

As soon as you share a tweet supporting the environment, tell your followers about your sustainable procurement or share a real story with them they will trust you. When you show and prove that you do care about the world and all that live on it, people will flock to you instead of your competitors and support you and your vision. Being able to market yourself as being an eco-friendly business is a key part of your success and can make a massive difference. 

You can work with charities 

One of the positive things you’ll gain from being a sustainable business is the ability to work with charities and organizations on projects. A great example of this is Cushelle – a toilet paper brand that plants 3 trees for every tree they use to create toilet roll. It is a message which gets people to support them because something real is being done across the world, and they work with organizations such as Greenpeace to do this. If you can get your foot in the door with a charity this could be mutually beneficial to both of you.

A great reason to recognize the patterns of your business and use a sustainable message in marketing is the reputation you’ll gain. Reputation is an incredibly important part of running a business and ensuring that it is successful, and you can make a big difference and gain much more in terms of sales as a result.

The best branding doesn’t always come from big campaigns or expensive graphics. Sometimes it’s the smaller stuff that leaves the biggest impression. Things people actually use, touch, or carry with them. That’s where your brand can quietly make its mark without needing to shout about it. If you’re only focusing on social media and business cards, you’re leaving a lot on the table. Here are five overlooked ways to get your name out there that feel natural, useful, and more personal. Thank-you slips If you’re already sending out orders, there’s no reason not to include a short thank-you slip. You can easily get these made through any decent online print shop , and they’re usually pretty cheap to run off in small batches. Just a simple note that says thanks, maybe with a reminder to follow you online or a cheeky discount code for next time. It’s quick, thoughtful, and makes the whole order feel more finished. Customers notice that kind of detail, especially when everything else they buy online comes with zero personality. You don’t need a complicated design either. Just something clean with your logo, a message that sounds like you, and maybe a social handle. The point is to give them a reason to come back or remember your name without it feeling forced. Branded zip pouches If you sell physical products, offer services, or run events, small zip pouches are surprisingly effective. Think of the kind you’d use for stationery, receipts, or travel bits. You can get your brand printed on the side and hand them out with purchases or include them in welcome packs. People keep them because they’re actually useful. They get tossed in handbags, school bags, or glove boxes and your logo just keeps turning up. Cleaning cloths for glasses or screens This one works brilliantly if you’re in tech, health, beauty, or anything involving screens or eyewear. In some districts, their findings are influencing energy policy. Elsewhere, the audits have inspired school boards to hire sustainability coordinators—often alumni of the student programs themselves. There’s something poetic about a school funding new books or laptops from money saved by students who found out the vending machines didn’t need to be plugged in 24/7. Why This Matters More Than Ever With education budgets tightening and utility costs rising, every dollar saved is a dollar that can go back into classrooms. And here’s where it gets interesting from a family finance perspective, too. If you’re a parent setting aside money for post-secondary savings, every bit of school efficiency helps.
