Your office has a lot of green values. However, are you going far enough to both implement and uphold them? Because even when you have the greenest, most environmentally conscious of motives, you can slip back into old habits, and your employees can also follow suit. When it comes to promoting and maintaining
sustainability in your business
, this is a bit of a bad start!
So maybe you need to have a rethink about your green policies, and just how well you’re following them. And to help you with this, here is a quick checklist about what most needs to happen next within your office.
Set Some Firm Eco-Friendly Rules
Eco-friendly rules are natural to follow in theory, but they need to be reinforced. And even notably ‘green’ companies can get sloppy, especially if the recycling bin is too far away and the waste paper basket is just right there under the desk…
So maybe you need to hire a green force cleaning team, who knows the recycling rules? Or, maybe it’s a rule that you never print out something unless you have to? Storing data on cloud servers is a much better bet; the storage is essentially endless, and it saves on tons of paper per year. Simple and clear rules like these will help you stay firm.
Invest in Green Technology
Green technology has a lot to offer your company, even if it’s small and you’ve only got a square office to work out of. Seeing as you work out of this base day in and day out, you should think about ways to cut back in certain areas, and as a result, save yourself both a lot of money and social worry.
Indeed, it might be time to look into your commercial solar options. Could panels or batteries be a good fit for your roof? If so, you could cut back by at least 50% on paying for energy elsewhere and use a renewable and self-sufficient alternative of your own. You can never be sure what kind of energy is being supplied to you, after all, and you also won’t have such a big bill to deal with next time either. It’s a win-win!
Monitor Your Usage
It’s also a good idea to monitor just how much you use each month, in terms of how much water and energy you use within the office. Getting something like a ‘SMART’ meter to help you keep a constant eye on how much you’re consuming is a good start, but they’re not always reliable .
So instead, you need to be able to tap into your consumption personally. Use estimates on bills sent out to you to get an average, and then think about how you can lower this by turning things off in the office, or simply cutting them out altogether.
A green example can only be set by you! As the boss, your team will follow suit, so keep the above ideas in mind.
